How to download your Bitvavo history (step-by-step guide 2026)

How to export your Bitvavo transaction history

If you use Bitvavo and need to export your transaction history so your Cryptoimpuestos specialist can work out your crypto tax, this guide is for you. It covers two methods: downloading CSV files and connecting by API.

Why you need your Bitvavo history

Bitvavo is an exchange based in Amsterdam (Netherlands). Although it is registered with the Bank of Spain, it has no Spanish subsidiary, so for tax purposes it counts as a foreign exchange.

If you hold more than €50,000 on foreign exchanges, you have to file the Modelo 721.

On top of that, to calculate the gains and losses for your return you need:

  • the date of every purchase and sale
  • the quantity of crypto
  • the price in euros
  • the fees paid

Method 1: CSV download

Step 1: sign in to your Bitvavo account

  1. Go to bitvavo.com
  2. Log in with your email address and password

Step 2: go to Transaction History

  1. At the top right, click your profile name
  2. Choose “Transaction History”

Step 3: export the history

  1. At the top right of the transaction list, click “Export History”
  2. Choose “Full History (CSV)” to download the complete history
  3. Click “Export”
  4. A CSV file will be downloaded

Tip: you can also pick the current year, earlier years or the full history. For your return, select at least the tax year you have to declare.

What the CSV file contains

The Bitvavo CSV file includes all your transactions:

Transaction typeDescription
TradesCrypto purchases and sales (crypto/fiat and crypto/crypto)
DepositsEuro or crypto deposits
WithdrawalsEuro or crypto withdrawals
Staking rewardsStaking rewards received

Important: do not open or modify the CSV file before sending it to us. Opening it in Excel can change the date or number formatting and make it harder to process.

Method 2: API connection

If you need to automate the extraction or connect to tax software, Bitvavo offers an API.

How to create your API key

  1. Log in to Bitvavo
  2. Click your profile name (top right)
  3. Choose “API”
  4. Click “Request new API key”
  5. Complete the 2FA verification
  6. Give your key a name (for example, “Cryptoimpuestos”)
  7. Leave the IP Whitelist field blank
  8. Enable “View information” only (read-only)
  9. Copy your API Key and API Secret

Security: only enable “View information”. We do not need trading or withdrawal permissions. Read-only access is enough to extract your history.

Frequently asked questions

How much history can I export?

All of it. Bitvavo lets you export the complete history since you opened the account.

Is Bitvavo a foreign exchange for the Modelo 721?

Yes. Bitvavo is based in the Netherlands and has no Spanish subsidiary. Although it is registered with the Bank of Spain to operate, it counts as a foreign exchange. If your combined holdings on foreign exchanges exceed €50,000, you have to file the Modelo 721.

Can I export as a PDF?

Bitvavo does offer a PDF tax report, but for the detailed calculation we need the CSV with every transaction.

Do staking transactions show up in the CSV?

Yes, staking rewards appear in the transaction history. Every reward is a taxable event and is taxed as investment income when you receive it.
